At PSI, we’re proud to employ people who are passionate not only about packaging but about the good of the community as well.
On that note, meet Mike Breakiron.
Aside from being Shipping Supervisor at our facility in Connellsville, Pennsylvania, Mike also serves as Fire Chief of the Dunbar Volunteer Fire Department in Dunbar, Pennsylvania.
No doubt Mike has saved countless lives over his 28 years as a volunteer firefighter, but we’d like to highlight his recent involvement in helping to save a man’s life:
On April 28, a little after 10 p.m., the Dunbar Volunteer Fire Department was called to the scene of a house fire. Upon arrival, Mike determined that there was a person still trapped inside the actively burning structure and quickly dispatched two of his firefighters—one of whom was his son—on a search and recovery mission. After carefully picking his way through a burning hallway, one of the firefighters finally found the trapped man wedged behind a closed door in a second-floor bedroom. He then extricated the man to Mike and his son, who were waiting at the staircase of the home to escort him outside to EMS personnel.
Later that evening, a Pennsylvania State Trooper began an investigation to determine the cause of the fire. During interviews, he learned of the actions of Mike and his two fellow firefighters and wrote a letter to recognize them for a job well done. “It is my belief and understanding that had these members of the Dunbar Volunteer Fire Department not responded and acted as quickly and professionally as they did, the trapped individual, who was rescued by these men, would have succumbed to smoke inhalation and would have died,” the State Trooper wrote.
We commend Mike for his bravery and his capability as a leader.
When he’s not busy saving lives, Mike uses his finely honed problem-solving abilities and outstanding leadership skills to manage customer shipment traffic at our Connellsville facility. You could say he’s responsible for putting out any proverbial fires that start on the road from our facility to our clients’ doorsteps.
Mike began his career at PSI in 1989. He spent his first 27 years with us working as a driver before taking on the role of shipping supervisor in 2016.
In Mike’s 28 years with us, he has proven himself to be both a skilled organizer and a strong, compassionate leader. “Mike is just always willing to help people, in whatever capacity he can,” says Chris Semzock, office manager at our Connellsville facility.
Mike’s drive to lead and help others combined with his impressive array of skills and industry experience make him an invaluable member of our team.
Keep up the good work, Mike!
